Yaganti - The Land of India’s Nostradamus
Yaganti, A Quiet place and a week end trip from Hyderabad yet mysterious in all ways. The Temple was constructed by the King Harihara Bukka Raya of Vijayanagara empire empirein 15th century. The temple is closely attached to Potuluri Veera Brahmendra swamy, also called as indian Nostradamus.
The main deity in the temple is Sri Yaganti Uma Maheswara swamy. One important thing is that the temple is build according to the Vaishnavaite tradition. A Shiva temple built on Vaishnavite tradition. The Sage Agastya wanted to build a temple for lord venkateswara on this site. once the statue was made and installed the toe nail of the idol got broken. Agastya then performed a penance for lord shiva, when appeared shiva said this place is better suited for shiva as it resembles kailash. Shiva then gave agastya lord uma maheswara idol which is the main deity today.
Pushkarini, a small pond of water in the temple premises is another thing to watch. The water is so fresh and it comes from bottom of the hill through the mouth of the Nandi. The water to the Pushkarini comes from another small Pushkarini that is inside the temple called "agastya Pushkarnini". No one knows how the water reaches to the agastya pushkarini. One another thing about this pushkarini is that the water from this is used by agriculture. It is said that water goes until 16km from this temple and stops from there.
There are 3 caves available Agastya Cave, Venkateswara Cave and Veera Brahmam Cave. Of these both agastya and venkateswara caves can be climbed. Venkateswara cave still have the boken toe venkateswara idol. Veera Brahmam cave is where saint Sree Potuluri Veera Brahmendra swamy wrote some of his Kala Gnaanam
Growing Nandi - One mysterious thing over here is the growing nandi, According to the saint potuluri veera brahmendra swamy, the Basavanna ( Nandi ) of Yaganti will come alive and shout when kali yuga ends.
If you see the hills around, behind the temple we can see a small nandi on the top of the hill,
This is the same size of the nandi that was installed inside the temple but it was growing. When end of Kali Yuga reaches, the basavanna will come alive and shout. Representing this we can see a bull on the other side of the hill, which says the bull will raise upto that height and shout
No Crow Zone - One another thing with this temple is that we will not see any crows over here, legend says that while sage agastya was performing his penance, crows disturbed him and he cursed that crows cannot enter this place. As Crow is the vahana for lord shani, it is said that shani cannot enter the place. There is a shani puja available here where people are allowed to lit a lamp on the tip of the hill with their prayers.
